Chapter 1....err...1\2

I guess you can say it was fate. Or chance. Or craziness, even. But whatever you called it. The minute I saw him, I knew that I knew him, from somewhere. And that we belonged together. Ok, I know that you're probably going like," What the heck is going on?!". Well, it's not that complicated. I think.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I was sitting down eating and laughing with my friends at our regular table. We weren't the most popular kids, but we were pretty popular. Boys walked around our table, trying to get our attention, but we ignored them.

Everybody was still eating and laughing and stuff, but I was bored and had turned my head and was looking at the door just to see if anyone was late to lunch. Rarely, anyone is, because this is like free time for us. It's time for us to relax and talk with friends. Then he walked in. Everything seem to disappear until it was just me and him.

He walked toward the lunch line, with my eyes following him. Then someone tapped me on my shoulder and brought me back into the real world." Tianna!,".

" What?" I asked my friend, Vanessa, still dazed.

" You, like spaced out on us girl! I had to yell your name like fifteen times."

" Oops. Sorry. Some things have been happening. Must have thinking about too much," I said embarrassed, which was true. My family was a messed up one. Several cousins and uncles in jail. Three family members dead from fighting in gangs. The crazy things that people in my family would do, I thought exasperated. Vanessa shook her head and turned back talking to some girls.

I make sure that no one is looking at me, and then I look at him. He had green eyes, black hair, was well-built, and very handsome. Some other girls were staring at him. Then he looked over my way, and I looked away blushing.

I sneaked a look back at him again and saw that he was walking towards us. Immediately, I started fixing my hair and clothes. Then he walked pass. Start to the popular table. And sat down next to the most popular girl in school. Marcie. My childhood and teen hood enemy. The girl who made fun of me. The girl who taunted me, made a fool of me, and bullied me. We hate each other. WE used to be the best of friends, but something happened in 6th grade that I don't know. Something that made her different.

             @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Marcie had just come back from the hospital, because of a broken arm. She had sauntered in to our classroom with a cast on. " Hey Marcie! I'm sooooo glad that you're out of the hospital! How is your arm?".

She looked at me and snapped, " Fine!", like it was my fault. I cringed.

" What's wrong Mars?" Asking her with the her nickname that she only let ME use.

" You can't call me that! That's a planet name, fyi. And, mmmmm! Look at that!, " She said looking at herself," I'm not a planet! And there's nothing wrong. Other than I need to get the teachers attention, so I can switch seats with someone else, because you're so annoying.".

Those words hit me in the face with a force of a very long freight train going 200 miles per hour. I realized, immediately, something about her had changed. Then I remembered something. As Marcie was trying to get the teachers attention, I sneakily, grabbed my phone and asked the teacher's T.A. if I could go to the bathroom. She gave me a pass and I half walked, half ran to the bathroom.

When I got there, I made sure nobody was there. Then I went into one of the stalls and flipped open my phone. I really wished my mom would get me an iPhone or at least a better phone. I dialed voicemail and punched in my password. Then I listened to last night's voice mail. I had seen it this morning but thought nothing of it. I get a lot of calls that I miss ,because I'm so busy. And usually it's boys asking me out.

" Tianna! Help me! Someone! Please pick up your phone!". After that there was some heavy breathing noises. Then a crash. A scream, then" Tianna! Stay away from me! Get out of town! Go somewhere else! Stay away-,". Then a scream of pain ripped through the air from the phone. Then, " Do not report this to the police, whoever is on the other side of this phone. If you do, I will find you and kill your soul. This is not a joke,". Then he hung up.

I didn't ever tell anyone what happened, afraid I would end up in the Looney Box, as they call it. I never even wrote it down in my journal. I was way too afraid that the guy on the other end would find me. At first, I started to think it was a prank, but after a week with the new Marcie, I knew that it was for real.

Life moved on and I found new friends and such. But that one incident would always come back and haunt me and give me nightmares. But that had never happened for a long time now. The last one I had was n 8th grade. But I was in 11th grade now. That was three years ago. But now is the present.

The boy sauntered right over to Marcie, sat down right next to her, and started talking to her. Even from this distance, I could see that Marcie was flirting with him. I immediately stopped hoping, because once Marcie had her claws on someone, she doesn't let go until she gets bored. Which is a different time length for different boys. I'm thinking she'll have her hooks in the boy for a long time. A very long time.

I sighed and went back to eating. I listened to my friends chitchat and the gossip. Then  I felt someone poke my back. I turned around and saw Marcie. I was surprised, because she never talks to me. " Don't you dare go near Preston. He's mine," and then it seemed like she was about to hiss at me, but then her head went up like it was listening to something and then she left. Weird. But at least I knew the new, hot boy's name. I shrugged and went back to eating.

Five minutes later, someone poked me in the back. I turned around and saw Preston. " So you're Tianna, right?" he asked.

Before I could say anything, Vanessa answered for me. "  Yep! That's her all right. Nothing fancy, like me, but she'll do!". I slugged her in the arm, while Preston stood there smirking.

I rolled my eyes and said," Sorry about Vanessa, but she can be such a fantasizer at times,". He just kept smirking while Vanessa was complaining about me. " So what'cha want to ask me?".

At once he stopped smirking and put a serious face on. " Can we talk in private?". I looked at him with my eyebrows raised and thought about it for a minute. Should I listen to Marcie and stay safe from her, or should I go talk with this sexy guy, in private, and have to face Marcie's wrath? Well, I'm now a second degree black belt, so facing Marcie's wrath shouldn't be that bad. So I nodded and led him out of the food court and out to the classrooms, where none of the students hang out, even though its aloud.

" Okay? So what?". I asked.

" Well. Has Marcie talked to you?".

I looked at him weird and answered, " Yeah. The first time in a while. Why are you asking?".

Ignoring my question he asked, " What did she say?".

" To tell me to stay away from you. Why are you asking me?". He looked and started mumbling something that I couldn't catch. "Why are you asking?". Then it seems a million things were happening at once. Preston dragging me down, the sound of me screaming and the bang of the bullets. Then him dragging me, across the fields and track toward the woods, beside the school. I didn't try to stop him or anything. I was too shocked. Because I saw the shooter's face. Marcie.

                                  @@@@@@@@@@@@

By the time we had stopped running, which felt like hours, I was still in shock. But only partial. I heard Preston say for me to sit down. I fell on the ground. He sits next to me and puts his arm around me. And for no reason at all, I start crying. I let all the tears I had stuffed inside of me, out. He pulls closer and keeps his arms around, as if trying to shield me from the pain, the hurt. But nothing can shield me. No one can.  Not from this kind of pain.
